Wednesday Word: Minister Farrakhan

Alright so I’m probably going to be blacklisted (pun intended) for posting this video on our site but, if you can, drop whatever initial prejudice you may have and judge for yourself.

You know when you have one of those days to check out or read up on anyone you ever wanted to know more in depth – for good or for bad? Today was one of those days and I decided to really investigate this man known as Minister Farrakhan.

Although Minister Farrakhan has been persecuted in the media for somewhat valid reasons, they fail to mention the reason why he is worthy of persecution in the first place.

Because his words and the delivery of them resonate in the souls of millions of people. And though the message, at times, may be misguided and scornful, it is a message that should be listened to with open ears for the wisdom and the beauty it may possess.

Minister Farrakhan speaks about Obama and the unification of the American people.

I don’t think Farrakhan is unjustifiably scornful. I believe that he as well as the nation of Islam scared the hell out of White people with the mock trial in the 1950s where they charged the white man with crimes against humanity. I like Farrakhan, the state of Black people in America angers him and has angered him, but he doesn’t allow that Black suffering to blind him from the suffering of other people. In an his interview with Wallace a couple years back he told Wallace that as an American he was in no moral position to impose an ideological belief on Nigeria that America had just began to accept (vis a vis allowing blacks to vote in 64). I guess his view on separatism has changed and it’s a bit confusing. Have we reconciled? I don’t see how since Democracy is Capitalism bitch. This is my second year of college and I get more and more scared everyday because I’m that much closer to assimilating to and ideology and a culture that gentrifies our neighbourhoods, provides the worst resources and education, and clandestinely imposes a European standard of beauty that has children hating themselves daily. How much of what I like is really what I like?
